Heeeeelllllloooooooooo
Heeeelllllloooo
Well hello there and thank you for coming,
As you may have noticed I have a new home for the sbh, a new website is a new space which possibly leads to new ideas and new direction……..
and this ! A new blog !! You may have read some of my random thinkings on the previous site so you may know what to expect or you may not, I know I don’t
Lets do a little rewind and introduce shortblondehair properly, where you are now is a culmination of a 30(ish) year in club photography mainly in Manchester but have travelled extensively over the country and sometimes even further afield
About 10 years I realised that I need to split the clubbing side of my work into a separate entity (confusion with working practices, impersonation, ideas and days jobs frowning on the perceived hedonistic nature of the work etc)
I looked around for a name that summed up what I was trying to say/do, I tried to wrap up the idea in characteristics of personalities I’d seen.
You know the way when you see someone with shortblondehair you double take or absorb their info in..or when a persona wants to make a statement they cut their hair short and dye it blonde that rapper bloke clichéd it but think of the others that have done it well people like….
Think Billy Idol, Posh, Zoe Karvitz, Beyonce, Cara, Zac, the Bieber etc etc etc
The list goes on - and of course all the separate words short/blonde/hair all have huge definitions and meanings so Voilà you have what I’m trying to do here !
Well that was the thinking was behind it, not sure it ever really took off or worked but that’s what I hoped it would be a place for my combination of club images, fashion, some street and random images…
That’s the background so lets return and some flesh on the bones of this with some other elements. I’ve been a club photographer since the 1990’s (little unsure when it went from taking pictures for fun and then taking them for cash) I must have visited over a 10,000 clubs in my time, from a cold Monday night in Stoke to a vibrant Thursday in Manchester I have seen most of it and photographed even more. I still love how the photos jog my memories, sometimes in the most obscure ways…
When the clubs closed I was already starting my retirement from the night-time economy but the enforced break had made me re-examine that decision, I started to remember what I loved about club photography and what it did so you may yet see a return not to the 2/3 times weekly visits but maybe one a month etc
The main thrust of the site will be to show a selection of images that I’ve shot over the last 30 years as I’m starting the process of getting together all the images for an exhibition/book/site/document (aren’t we all!)
The aim is to put them out both on here and on Insta for your perusal with the hope that they may garner some interest and gain some energy for them nearly enough as the energy contained in them would do !!
The journey will consist of some images that didn’t see the light of day back then, show some that did, show some I’ve forgotten about and maybe even talk about them as we go, you up for that? Cheers to that journey.
Ciao, bello!
