Honest…

SBH- so what’s next? An honest answer…

Ok so the posts haven’t been as free flowing as I’d like, the take up hasn’t been so enthusiastic and the timing hasn’t been great but SBH is still here.

Like the quote goes if you stick around long enough you get respected like ugly buildings and prostitutes.. or something like that…

So as one gets older and the doors start naturally closing, you start to look back through the archive of your thoughts and in my case my images, I realise that I was there at a lot of seminal club experiences, was there at the first Poptastic and many years after, photographed at the Haceinda, did Sankeys, did Applejacks, did Music Box, first official Warehouse photographer, ABH photographer…the list goes on and is quite long..

The school of thought is that the clubbing seemed better back then frankly cause I was there I’m not sure, maybe it was the crowd, the drugs, the alcohol, the music, the attitude or maybe it’s just the rose tinted film glasses (yes a lot of this stuff is on negative and slide, that’s how old a photographer I am !!

I detest the looking back mentality but as I realise that maybe my successful clubbing days are shortly numbered, I’m left with a large archive and as I look back through it, I think yeah why not…so I’ve swallowed and decided to use the archive images, maybe adapt the writing and couple them together… this rather than constantly looking for and using “fresh” images…

….God Saint Anthony would be spinning in his grave….crap nostalgia…strong believer in looking forward not back, hated the use of recent culture as a theme park, history as entertainment but I’ll nick one of his and say this is Manchester and we do things differently here…

So with the use of my current clear thoughts and my old incisive images then I do hope to make something new that looks ahead..is that even possible?

I have 25 years worth of images from various venues at various times that seem to be just sitting there, exhibition is a possibility but I’ve been passed over that once before, maybe if the interest grows I’ll pull it all together and do something but for now I’ll put it here via shortblondehair.co.uk and instagram, I think..hope the use of archiving doesn’t cause any upset, offence or gets me sued but there you go but for the grace of your god.

Throwback Thursday it is then…

Before I ease wholeheartedly into the archive stuff, I’ll ease it in gently by doing a bridge, I’m showing 2 shots in this that are from the same clubnight, now there aren’t many that can lay claim to regular nights over a 20+year period but one of them is Funkademia… I remember photographing this at the boardwalk but haven’t found the images yet…as I said before memory ain’t so hot as I was there but the recent archive trawl has thrown up an image from 2003 that’s 15 years ago, only seems like yesterday…

Clubbing pictures from Manchester over time…

Using the age-old examination reflection techniques lets ask…

“What can you see and how does it work?”

What differences can be identified?

How does it make you feel?

Let me know what you think, cheers for reading…
