Discussion.

Continuing on from my love of Fridays blog and feeding into what I’ve been thinking about sbh, I’ve been looking at the thousands (poss millions) of images that make up the sbh raison d'etre. Thought I’d share one of my favourite images and one that I think sums up what the hell I’ve been trying to do for all these years.

sbh blog image 23-07-21.JPG

This was taken in 2009, part way through my journeys in clubland, it was made at Mint Lounge on Oldham Street at a night called Clique. Clique was one of those cool, youth nights where the music policy was truly eclectic but in a nice way, there was a great mix on the dancefloor nearly always as many women as men (always a good sign) I remember photographing them as promoters as they started out and thought it was a great sounding night and that I’d love to work for them and eventually I did !

As my memory goes a little I rely on the digital image data and it states that the image was created on the 2009-02-14 01:15:47 which is very precise but the funny thing is that I remember making this image, not so much at the time as I was producing many images going through many things at that time but this image kept popping up in selection as an image that I returned to.

Think this is because I love the moment it captured, I seem to remember the girl on the left doing something and everyone laughing, then as I looked at the image I realised she’d twanged the strap of the girl on the right vest top, only reaslising much later that that action had been revealing a little too much but it looks like this was taken in good spirits, due to the “oh no you didn’t just do that againtm” look on her face…

Hang on just  before you zoom in and curse the quality, I’ve photoshopped hair to cover her modesty so there’s nothing on show, did this as I wanted to use this image in any sort of this is what I do at sbh moment, not sure I ever did so it’s here in it’s altered glory.

Thinking about that action, doesn’t it just say something about the energy/heat/feeling of the place that even on a February night it was hot enough to wear vest tops on the dancefloor, think I was wrapped up in a t-shirt and hoodie at the time..

Another ekement of the image that I love is the laughter contained in the image, it shows 3 people having fun on a dancefloor, in a club, on a Friday night (Saturday morning to be pedantic), I remember the way that I used to stroll around the dancefloor looking for moments, energy as the image contests I must have spotted something, maybe I was the impetus for leopard print to twang green vest, maybe, possible she didn’t mean it to result in what happened tho! Something else you gotta remember is that it was pretty dark in there too, so for the girl at the back to see what was going on enough to laugh means that some jape was apparent to them, maybe?

I could wax on about the image but I’m sure you’ve reached the limit of reading my verbals, (if you haven’t then please let me know!). Thinking on as I go to publish this, it does also highlight the problems with archival images, issues such as usage, qualities, moments and permissions etc. I really hope that I’ve not upset anyone with this putting it out there but feel that it should be shared as I’m not sure if this image was ever used but it’s always bobbed about in my selection for the best pictures I’ve made. I’ve never have found out who was in this image but would very much like to see what they feel about this after the 12(!) years have passed, so internet do yo thing and lets see if we can find them !
